Implant Options for Missing or Broken-Down Teeth

Lifelike and durable teeth replacement options

Dental implants feel, look and function just like natural teeth and are the most durable and lifelike replacement option for missing teeth. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are titanium posts that act as replacement tooth roots. They can be used to support a single crown, a dental bridge or a denture.

Recent advances in dental technologies now make it possible for most people to receive dental implants and enjoy their numerous benefits. Following are our dental implant options:

Dental Implants to replace an individual tooth

San Antonio Dental Implant ServicesDr. Young places a dental implant to act as the root of a replacement tooth. A connecting piece known as an abutment is placed on top of the implant and functions as the attachment point for a dental crown.

The implant-supported new tooth functions, looks and feels just like a natural tooth and can be brushed and flossed along with your other teeth. Patients have said they cannot tell the difference between their implant tooth and their regular teeth.

Implant-supported bridges

Implant Options for Missing Teeth

When several teeth in a row are missing, Dr. Young can place a series of implants to support a dental bridge. Implant-supported bridges have close to the same biting and chewing power as natural teeth and provide the chewing pressure needed to prevent bone loss in the jaw.

Implant-supported removable dentures

The most economical way to replace an arch of missing teeth is to use implants to support a denture that can snap onto the implants but can still be removed. The implants have special attachments that snap onto corresponding pieces on the underside of your denture and hold your denture snugly in place.

Your implant-supported removable dentures will have about 30% of normal biting and chewing power. You won’t need adhesives to hold them in place and you will not have the discomfort that comes with unsupported dentures rubbing against your dental arch.

Stabilizing an existing denture

If you are currently wearing dentures, it is sometimes possible for Dr. Young to place a set of implants in your arch and retrofit the dentures so they will snap onto the implants and provide added support.

New Teeth in a Day

If you are missing all your teeth or need to have all your teeth replaced, Dr. Young can place a tailor-made number of implants in strategic positions on your dental arch to support new fixed-in teeth that can only be removed by the dentist.

Your new teeth will have biting and chewing power close to that of natural teeth. You will be able to eat the foods you need for proper nutrition and there will be no false palate across the roof of your mouth to block your sense of taste.

After initial planning and preparation, the entire procedure will be performed in one visit and you will walk out with new teeth in a single day!
